Continuing our wonderful celebration of our patron, St. Francis of Assissi, Pre-K4 through Grade 5 had a unique experience. Ms. Lorrie Schumacher, a Master Class Falconer, introduced us to some of her friends with “TALONS: A Bird of Prey Experience.”
She introduced us to a magnificent and huge owl called Big Mama. Big Mama’s wing span was 5 feet and her piercing yellow eyes were mesmerizing. Next, we metthe fastest flyer on Earth, Prince Ravi, a beautiful gray and white falcon. Last, but definitely not least, was Macho Man, a Harris Hawk, who flew free throughout our school yard and sat up in a tree as some seagulls flew by.
Ms. Savage volunteered to perform “The Hoop of Death” letting Macho Man fly through her arms. We learned so much about birds of prey and had the opportunity to see these incredible birds up close.
Special thanks to the Facchini Family for bringing this program to SFA.
