On February 16, 2012, St. Francis Academy welcomed the grandparents of students from Pre-K to Grade 2. Usually held during Catholic Schools Week, the event started with the prayer service at the chapel, and the reception followed in the cafeteria and auditorium. Catholic Schools Week 2012 Day 2: January 31, 2012 – Children from Pre-K to Grade 3 dressed up this morning as their favorite book character, complete with props. They gave clues for the audience to name the character. In the afternoon, Sofia Lopez of Grade 5 triumphed over 19 students from Grades 5 – 8 in the Spelling Bee. Christian Raslowsky and Alexis Rugar of Grade 8 placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Catholic Challenge Preliminaries – Elizabeth Doody & Jenny Quispe made it to the finals to be held on April 16th. We wish them the best of luck.

Grade 5 students Kennith Gonzalez placed 1st, and Susann Torres placed 3rd, in the Spelling Bee Contest at Marist High School.

Grade 7 Jeopardy Team – Cyclones – placed 6th out of 24 teams that competed in the 7th Grade Jeopardy Games at Queen of Peace High School. Congratulations to Christian Raslowsky (Captain), Joseph Koegel, Brandon Perez, Jessica Heim, and Alexis Rugar.

Meanwhile, in Hudson County Improvement Authority Earth Day 2011 Calendar Contest, Tyler Sattaur (Grade 2) wins first place in Grades PK-2 category, and Brandon Perez (Grade 7), placed 1st in Grade 6-8 category. Both of them will receive gift cards and have their artwork featured in Hudson County Improvement Authority 2012 calendar.

In 2011 New Jersey Arbor Day Contest, first grader Layla Malave placed 1st in the state. She will receive a medal and a gift card from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.

Thomas Jandora and Patrick Keenan of the 5th Grade are proud to be members of the Jersey City Capitals Hockey Team. They won the state championship on Sunday. Congratulations Patrick and Thomas.

The Marist High School 1st Annual 5th Grade Spelling Bee takes place on March 18, 2010. David Espino, Ryan Ross and Michael Seo have been training with Mr. Robert Tholen after school. The boys have also been practicing at home. Good luck at the Spelling Bee, David, Ryan, and Michael.
