SFA Students – Excellent in Sports

On April 30, 2010, students of St. Francis Academy received Sports Excellence Award from Union City.

The first ever Sports Excellence Awards Ceremony was held at the Union City Performing Arts Center located at 2500 Kennedy Boulevard in Union City. Five (5) SFA students received the award from the city.

From the news:

…Commissioner Irizarry, director of recreation, says: “We are honoring more than athletic abilities, we will be honoring positive character and commitment. This is an opportunity for us to highlight our student athletes, their families, and our coaches….”

Joseph Koegel (Gr. 6) – Swimming
Melissa Alfonso (Gr. 7) – Swimming

Spring Door Contest 2010

Students decorated the doors of their classrooms for the first Spring Door Contest hosted by the Student Council. The decorations and designs represent the warmth and beauty of the season of Spring.

Terranova Testing Week: March 1st – 5th

Terranova Reminders:

BEFORE THE TEST

Sharpened #2 pencils must be prepared.
Bring a healthy mid-morning snack
Arrive early at school.

Sr. Kathleen Toman helps in the supervision of Ms. Figura's Grade 3 class

DURING THE TEST

Read all instructions clearly.
Pencils may not be picked up without the teachers’ permission.
No calculators are to be used.
Absolute silence during testing
Students are to remain seated during testing time.

Grade 8 class takes their last Terranova Test at SFA

AFTER THE TEST

Students are allowed to put their heads down for a rest between tests
Students should have book to read while waiting for others to finish
Bathroom breaks allowed after testing.
Absolute silence after the test

IMPORTANT!

Birthdate of student must be absolutely correct. Cognitive score depends on correct birthdate.

Kindergarten class takes their first Terranova tests.

Writing Assessment

Speed Racer

Grade 4 students tested their theories of speed and motion by building racing cars with cardboard, rubber bands, and blank CDs. Under the guidance of Ms. Ramos and our partnership with Stevens Institute of Technolgy PISA program the experiment was a great success. The winning car was built by the team of Nicolette, Emily, Gabriella, and Nathalia. Go Girls!
