First Holy Communion and May Crowning 2010

On May 27, 2010, Ms. Hogan’s 2nd grade students received their First Holy Communion at the school chapel. In the afternoon, the entire school body honored the Blessed Virgin Mary during our annual May Crowning.

Spring Door Contest 2010

Students decorated the doors of their classrooms for the first Spring Door Contest hosted by the Student Council. The decorations and designs represent the warmth and beauty of the season of Spring.

Terranova Testing Week: March 1st – 5th

Terranova Reminders:

BEFORE THE TEST

Sharpened #2 pencils must be prepared.
Bring a healthy mid-morning snack
Arrive early at school.

Sr. Kathleen Toman helps in the supervision of Ms. Figura's Grade 3 class

DURING THE TEST

Read all instructions clearly.
Pencils may not be picked up without the teachers’ permission.
No calculators are to be used.
Absolute silence during testing
Students are to remain seated during testing time.

Grade 8 class takes their last Terranova Test at SFA

AFTER THE TEST

Students are allowed to put their heads down for a rest between tests
Students should have book to read while waiting for others to finish
Bathroom breaks allowed after testing.
Absolute silence after the test

IMPORTANT!

Birthdate of student must be absolutely correct. Cognitive score depends on correct birthdate.

Kindergarten class takes their first Terranova tests.

The month of May is a very important one here in St. Francis Academy because of these two religious activities: First Holy Communion of the 2nd Graders and The May Crowning (Crowning of the Virgin Mary).

May 16, 2009 – 2nd Graders received the Body of Christ for the first time at Sts. Joseph and Michael Church.
May 21, 2009 – 2nd Graders led the entire school in the Crowning of the Virgin Mary.

Irish for a Day

Yesterday (March 17, 2009), St. Francis Academy honored St. Patrick’s Day by wearing something green. Students were allowed to wear green ties, hats, and socks, and a first grader dressed up as a leprechaun.

Second graders drew and painted arts related to St. Patrick’s Day using the computer (KidPix software), and after lunch, upper grades watched as the Jeopardy winning teams from Grade 7 played an exhibition match moderated by school principal Ms. Savage. Audience were given the chance to answer when either team incorrectly answered questions from one of the seven categories.
