Bulb Planting Fall 2011

Ms. Savage, Grade 8, and Pre-K bless the bulbs before planting

October 11, 2011 – Grade 8 boys dug more than 275 holes around the school yard and garden for our annual bulb planting activity. Each class blessed the bulbs before planting them. We expect to see the flowers in Spring 2012.

SC Inauguration and Flag Day

June 14, 2011 – SFA Students, faculty, parents, and the Sisters witnessed the inauguration of the newly-elected Student Council officers for the school year 2011-2012. After the oath-taking ceremony, the event was highlighted by the annual celebration of Flag Day, presented by the 1st Graders.

Highlighting the day was the celebration of the Flag Day presented by Grade 1 class supervised by Miss Coffey. They recited the Pledge of Allegiance and facts about the nation’s flag, sang patriotic songs like America The Beautiful, and the Star-Spangled Banner. They also gave away miniature American Flags to students, parents, and teachers.

1st Grade’s Caps For Sale

April 15, 2011 – Ms. Coffey’s first graders read Caps For Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina as their April bookworms selection.

From Ms. Coffey:

…The story told of a cap peddler who ran into a problem when he decided to take a rest under a tree inhabited by monkeys. The children loved all the monkey business!!

The children decorated their own caps after reading the story. A good time was had by all! They wore their caps home with pride!

Learning the Digestive System

Students from Pre-K through Grade 2 learned about the digestive system when Sam the Dragon visited Saint Francis Academy on April 5, 2011. All the students got a chance to climb into a giant mouth, slide down an esophagus, and end up in a churning stomach before squeezing through the small and large intestines.
