Flag Day at SFA

Today, SFA celebrated the National Flag Day at the auditorium. Supervised by Ms. Coffey, the 1st Graders led the students, teachers, and some parents in the Flag Day Ceremony. They recited the Pledge of Allegiance and facts about the nation’s flag. The students also sang patriotic songs like Yankee Doodle Dandy, America The Beautiful, and the Star-Spangled Banner.

Butterfly Release 2010

Yesterday (May 6, 2010), Ms. Coffey’s 1st grade class released their butterflies at the schoolyard.

From Ms. Coffey:

The first graders have been studying the life cycle of a butterfly. They enjoyed stories ad learned about the many changes they go through. They witnessed he larva change into caterpillars, then into a chrysalis and finally emerging into beautiful Monarch Butterflies. They were sad to see them go but knew they would be happier outside among the flowers. The children released the butterflies in the schoolyard yesterday (May 6, 2010).

Spring Door Contest 2010

Students decorated the doors of their classrooms for the first Spring Door Contest hosted by the Student Council. The decorations and designs represent the warmth and beauty of the season of Spring.

Terranova Testing Week: March 1st – 5th

Terranova Reminders:

BEFORE THE TEST

Sharpened #2 pencils must be prepared.
Bring a healthy mid-morning snack
Arrive early at school.

Sr. Kathleen Toman helps in the supervision of Ms. Figura's Grade 3 class

DURING THE TEST

Read all instructions clearly.
Pencils may not be picked up without the teachers’ permission.
No calculators are to be used.
Absolute silence during testing
Students are to remain seated during testing time.

Grade 8 class takes their last Terranova Test at SFA

AFTER THE TEST

Students are allowed to put their heads down for a rest between tests
Students should have book to read while waiting for others to finish
Bathroom breaks allowed after testing.
Absolute silence after the test

IMPORTANT!

Birthdate of student must be absolutely correct. Cognitive score depends on correct birthdate.

Kindergarten class takes their first Terranova tests.

1st Grade Advent Project

The 1st graders learn important values and their teacher is proud of them. Read Miss Coffey’s statement: “The first graders have been working on an Advent project to help poor children of the world. During Religion class they learned about children who were in need of food, water, school supplies, medicine and toys. They were all very moved by the poverty they saw in photos and wanted to help….”

“The children were very excited and filled with the hope that they could make a difference in a child’s life. They decided it would be a great way to honor Jesus on His Birthday! The organization is World Vision and I am proud to say the children raised $425.00 for the cause. In the words of one of 1st graders, ‘Little hands can make a BIG difference’! I am so proud of each of them for learning the importance of sharing during this Holy Season. How happy they have made Baby Jesus on His Birthday!”
