On February 11, 2012, Kennith Gonzalez of Grade 6 triumphed over more than 30 students in the Jersey Journal’s 53rd Annual Hudson County Spelling Bee. With the win, Kennith gets to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., over Memorial Day weekend. Congratulations, Kennith! We are all proud of you! On February 16, 2012, St. Francis Academy welcomed the grandparents of students from Pre-K to Grade 2. Usually held during Catholic Schools Week, the event started with the prayer service at the chapel, and the reception followed in the cafeteria and auditorium. CSW 2012 Day 5: Closing Mass and Awards Ceremony

Catholic Schools Week 2012 Day 5: February 3, 2012 – The week concludes with the celebration of the Holy Mass at the chapel, officiated by Fr. Hector Larrea. In addition, everyone received the Blessing of throat in observance of the Feast of St. Blaise. The awards ceremony followed in the auditorium. (Photos HERE)

CSW 2012 Day 4: Favorite College or Team Sweatshirt

Catholic Schools Week 2012 Day 4: February 2, 2012 – Students came to school today representing their favorite college or sports team. In the morning, Christian Argudo of 3rd grade placed first among 10 participants in 2nd and 3rd grade Math Bee organized by Ms. Hogan and Ms. Figura.

Math Bee (2nd – 3rd) Winners

Robert Hurley – 3rd

As the Math Bee was being concluded, students from Pre-K to Grade 1 were having pajama pancake party in the school cafeteria. They were read stories by parents-volunteers as they enjoy their freshly made pancakes!

In the afternoon, parents, teachers, and students from Grade 3 – 8 enjoyed several numbers performed by our talented students during our Recital at the auditorium. In between the showcase of talents, finalists (4th grade – 8th grade) in the poem-writing contest read their pieces in front of everybody.

CSW 2012 Day 3: Open House and Math Bee 5th-8th

Catholic Schools Week 2012 Day 3: February 1, 2012 – Student Ambassadors greeted more than sixty prospective families in our Annual Open House this morning. Thank you parents for attending our OPEN HOUSE!

In the afternoon, Team A represented by Christian Raslowsky of Grade 8 placed first in the Math Bee organized by Mrs. Raslowsky and Mrs. Cassidy. The winning team is composed of:

CSW 2012 Day 2: Name That Character and Spelling Bee

Catholic Schools Week 2012 Day 2: January 31, 2012 – Children from Pre-K to Grade 3 dressed up this morning as their favorite book character, complete with props. They gave clues for the audience to name the character. In the afternoon, Sofia Lopez of Grade 5 triumphed over 19 students from Grades 5 – 8 in the Spelling Bee. Christian Raslowsky and Alexis Rugar of Grade 8 placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
