Students decorated the doors of their classrooms for the first Spring Door Contest hosted by the Student Council. The decorations and designs represent the warmth and beauty of the season of Spring.

1st Grade Advent Project

The 1st graders learn important values and their teacher is proud of them. Read Miss Coffey’s statement: “The first graders have been working on an Advent project to help poor children of the world. During Religion class they learned about children who were in need of food, water, school supplies, medicine and toys. They were all very moved by the poverty they saw in photos and wanted to help….”

“The children were very excited and filled with the hope that they could make a difference in a child’s life. They decided it would be a great way to honor Jesus on His Birthday! The organization is World Vision and I am proud to say the children raised $425.00 for the cause. In the words of one of 1st graders, ‘Little hands can make a BIG difference’! I am so proud of each of them for learning the importance of sharing during this Holy Season. How happy they have made Baby Jesus on His Birthday!”

Speed Racer

Grade 4 students tested their theories of speed and motion by building racing cars with cardboard, rubber bands, and blank CDs. Under the guidance of Ms. Ramos and our partnership with Stevens Institute of Technolgy PISA program the experiment was a great success. The winning car was built by the team of Nicolette, Emily, Gabriella, and Nathalia. Go Girls!

Helping Hands: Grade 8 Tutors Grade 4

Noveber 12, 2009 – Mrs. Giallombardo’s Grade 8 class tutored Mrs. Anzivino’s Grade class in preparation for their writing assessment tests, which they took today. (Click HERE for the photos of this activity).

The Jersey Journal’s 51st Hudson County Science Fair

Last Monday, March 23, 2009, the five winners of St. Francis Academy’s Science Fair 2008 represented our school in The Jersey Journal’s 51st Hudson County Science Fair at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. Participants of this prestigious contest are from the different public and private schools from Grades 5-12. They were interviewed by at least 3 judges. After their projects had been judged, the students attended a 3D show in JD Williams Theater.

Kayleen Sanchez (Grade 7) – “The Mind of a Parrot”
Andrew Hernandez (Grade 6) – “Particulate Pollution … Where Is It Hiding?”
Thomas Tyson III (Grade 6) – “Effect of Water Salinity and Temperature on an Oil Spill
Brandon Perez (Grade 5) – “Does Caffeine Have an Effect on Human Blood Pressure?”

Winners will be announced at the April 1 awards ceremony at New Jersey City University. This contest is sponsored by The Jersey Journal.
