Advent begins at SFA

The lighting of the first candle

The beginning of the Advent season was celebrated at St. Francis Academy Chapel on December 2, 2011 during our First Friday mass. The holy celebration was hosted by the Grade 6 class.

According to Catholic.org, “the word Advent derives from the Latin word meaning coming. The Lord is coming.” We prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ at Christmas, and we symbolize this by lighting the candles of the Advent Wreath. The first purple candle of our Advent Wreath was lit before the mass.

In addition, the new missal was officially used in our mass on December 2nd, 2011. Mass cards were distributed to guide us to the new translation.

First Week of School 2011-2012

The first day of school for the year 2011-2012 at St. Francis started on September 08, 2011 with the school principal Ms. Savage greeting everyone in front of the school. Before the regular schedule began, we had our opening mass on Friday, September 09, 2011 officiated by Msgr. Kevin Hanbury. Check out our photos below from our First Week of school activities!

A Poem in Your Pocket Day (2011)

Grade 6 students read their poems during Computer Class

Every year, St. Francis Academy observes “A Poem in Your Pocket Day“. On April 14, 2011, students From Pre-K to Grade 8 prepared a poem in their pockets which they read to someone in school. A poem can be originally written, or may be copied from a famous poet’s work. Do you have a poem to share? It’s not too late to share, simply type it in the comment section. :)

St. Patrick’s Day 2011

St. Francis Academy celebrates St. Patrick’s Day by wearing green. The halls of SFA are filled with shamrocks, the symbol used by St. Patrick to represent the Holy Trinity when he brought Christianity to Ireland.
