Photos and Videos: 6th Annual Walkathon 2012

May 11, 2012 – The weather –sunny and breezy – was perfect for our 6th Annual Walkathon. Supervised by the teachers and volunteer parents, the students walked several blocks chanting “SFA is the best!” before reaching the playground of Jose Marti.

A short prayer service preceded the event. The school Student Council led the short prayer service as our award-winning school choir sang beautiful praise songs.

We gathered in front of the school and walked around the blocks to Jose Marti on 21st Street. This year’s walkathon is the second time our school had used Jose Marti’s field.

Thank you very much to all the teachers, Sisters, and parents who made this fun-filled event possible. Special thanks to the Union City Police Department for escorting and giving us safety the entire time.

April 2012 Updates

Before receiving their First Holy Communion, the 2nd Graders went to confession to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on April 24, 2012 in the school chapel. A small reception with their family and friends followed at the auditorium.

On April 26, 2012, Mr. Martin and four 7th Grade boys participated in the annual Pirate Open held at Seton Hall. The Pirate Open is an academic challenge for the 7th and 8th grade boys from regional schools. Well done, boys!

February 2012 Updates

On February 11, 2012, Kennith Gonzalez of Grade 6 triumphed over more than 30 students in the Jersey Journal’s 53rd Annual Hudson County Spelling Bee. With the win, Kennith gets to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., over Memorial Day weekend. Congratulations, Kennith! We are all proud of you! On February 16, 2012, St. Francis Academy welcomed the grandparents of students from Pre-K to Grade 2. Usually held during Catholic Schools Week, the event started with the prayer service at the chapel, and the reception followed in the cafeteria and auditorium. CSW 2012 Day 5: Closing Mass and Awards Ceremony

Catholic Schools Week 2012 Day 5: February 3, 2012 – The week concludes with the celebration of the Holy Mass at the chapel, officiated by Fr. Hector Larrea. In addition, everyone received the Blessing of throat in observance of the Feast of St. Blaise. The awards ceremony followed in the auditorium. (Photos HERE)
