LETTER FROM MS. SAVAGE
May 5, 2009
Dear Parents,
As you know our beloved custodian, Mr. David Rivera passed from this life to eternal happiness on May 4, 2009.
Arrangements are as follows:
- Wake: Wednesday, May 6th ( 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM) – Saint Francis Chapel. Prayer Service starts at 7PM
- Funeral Mass: Thursday, May 7th (10:00 AM) – Sts. Joseph and Michael Church (14th Street and Central Avenue, Union City, NJ).
On Thursday, May 7th there will be NO SCHOOL so children and parents may attend Mr. Rivera’s funeral mass. I strongly urge you to bring your children to the wake or funeral mass so they too can express their grief and experience closure. (Students will be in full uniform)
Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
God bless you,
Deborah Savage
Please omit flowers, a donation to the Missionary Franciscan Sisters will be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Rivera, you will always be in our hearts! You were our friend and our family. You always cared about our health and knew how to make us feel better (especially when I (Nicole) had Asthma, you always reached out to help). You helped us with our heavy school bags when they were too heavy for us to carry. Thank you for always caring about how our Grandpa was doing. We will never forget you Mr. Rivera. God has a special place for you in heaven. We will miss you friend. You are irreplaceable and unforgettable to the community of St. Francis Academy!
Mr. Rivera was a man who greatly appreciated every single one of us. I still remember seeing him at school and he would always say Felipe! and Iwould have to correct him. This happened for the 3 years that I was at SFA. Mr. Rivera is now in heaven looking down on us. God Bless You. You are in my heart.
Mr. Rivera, you were such a loving and caring person. I will miss you forever and I will always keep you in my heart and in my prayers! I will never forget in the mornings when you would say: “Hola Breanna, Como Estas?” I will never forget your words that you told me when my grandma passed away: “Never Think About The Past But Always Think About The Future!” (Well ofcourse it was all in Spanish and I had to ask my friends aunt to translate it), but they still mean alot to me because when he told me that, I could tell that the way he said it, he really did mean it. I WILL MISS YOU!
Dear Mr.Rivera,
You were a loving, caring, hardworking, and peaceful man. You helped the children from pre-k to eighth grade cross the street. You were like a father to St. Francis Academy. You also always had a joyful and peaceful smile. When my dad would come to pick me up from school he’d have a worn out face of working 9 hours outside and you’d give him a smile. You are an angel and you will always be in everyone’s hearts because you did little things but they added up to something the whole school will remember you by. Just by saying a friendly hello, or saying,”Jenny” or holding the door for someone really means a lot. I miss you a lot but you are not suffering anymore and now you are resting in eternal hapiness with God. Thank- you Mr. Rivera for all you’ve done. My family, the school, and I will miss you with all our hearts, but one day we will all be together and we will see your smiling face again. Thank- you once again, but mostly thanks for giving my mom, dad, brothers, and I a smile. May you rest in peace with Jesus Christ our Savior.
Mr. Rivera,
You were the nicest man we ever met. We only knew you a short while but we will miss you very much. Thank you for always helping mom find a place to park when the weather was bad and we were running late. You took such good care of us, the sisters and our school. Saint Francis Academy will not be the same without you here but heaven is a better place with you there. Rest in Peace.
To the Rivera family
May God grant you peace during this time. Please know that all of you
are in our prayers. Please take comfort for you have not lost a beloved
husband and father because he will always be with you. May God Bless
you and keep you.
The Holders
I know that Mr. Rivera is in heaven right now but I will miss him in the morning saying hello. He loved and cared about our sisters. I will never forget the good deeds he did for our school. He was a part of our big family at SFA and I will never forget him. Everyone knew and cared about David. I know he would not want us to cry or be sad. But no one can help themselves because we will miss Mr. David Rivera forever!!!
Mr.Rivera was a good hard working man. He was so friendly to everyone. Now Mr.Rivera is in a better place now. He is looking down on us. Mr.Rivera is irreplaceable. We will all miss him. Mr.Rivera rest in peace. I remember him calling me Precious and I always said “Hi David how are you.” Everyone will miss Mr. Rivera. I will truly miss Mr. Rivera
I remember when he first started working at St Francis. I used to help Sr. Madeline translate her requests to him. He was always a hard worker. I was surprised to still see him there 20+yrs later at the alumni gathering. RIP.
Mr.Rivera was the nicest custodian a school can ask for. I wish he had an extra day to live so we can tell him how much we appreciate and love him . My Mom said every day to David “have a great day. I will truly miss Mr.Rivera.I will always remember something funny about David he always called my Mom Nelly.RIP.
I just came back to here in a random sort of way, but I actually remember him from my time at St. Francis (K-4th grade, then we moved…I’m 26 now). I just remember him as always being very nice.
Mr. Rivera was a very nice man and always helped everyone. Rest in peace for you were so loved by all…
