St. Francis Academy

Dear Parents,

Pope John Paul II wrote, “Christ came to bring joy: joy to children, joy to parents, joy to families and to friends, joy to workers and to scholars, joy to the sick and joy the elderly, joy to all humanity. In a true sense, joy is the keynote of the Christian message and the recurring motif of the Gospel … Be messengers of joy.“

Last week St. Francis Academy was the scene of almost constant joy as our community celebrated Catholic Schools Week. From our opening Pasta Dinner and Mass attended by Fr. Kevin Hanbury, Vicar of Education, and over 250 guests to our closing awards ceremony SFA was filled with activity and a joyful spirit of service. Our families shared their abundance with those less fortunate by participating in a most successful food drive, Chinese Auction, and Mission Bingo. Our parent and grandparent volunteers were truly the messengers of joy as they helped or attended our many activities and competitions.

On Friday evening we closed our week with an elegant Wine and Cheese reception for our alumni. Over one hundred alumni toured our school led by our student ambassadors, reminiscing and reconnecting with friends old and new. What a joy it is to see these bright and enthusiastic adults and know that Saint Francis Academy was a driving force in forming them as messengers of joy, the joy of Catholic education. Our alumni shared happy and amusing memories of their days at SFA and many attributed their successes to the influence of the sisters and teachers. My great hope is that our present day students and parents experience the same nurturing influence and reap similar benefits from their time spent at Saint Francis Academy.
