“The Lord has done great things for me and holy is His Name.”
(Luke 1:49)

Dear Parents,

All at St. Francis Academy welcome you with great joy to our 2017 – 2018 school year.  Is there anything more exciting than beginning a new school year?  New uniform, new books, new teacher and new classroom awaiting you, anticipating a reunion with friends, old and new.  We all return to a more structured day wistfully abandoning the relaxed manner of summer vacation.  This transition is sometimes difficult but always exciting.

Over the summer break so many have worked to ready the school for our dear students.  Books have been ordered and delivered, repairs, painting and cleaning have been accomplished, classrooms decorated and lessons prepared.  Our French program has been tweaked for our littlest learners, with the hiring of Language Learning Network, the teacher will use the Reggio Emilia approach, a learner centered, developmentally correct curriculum and teaching model for Pre-K 3 through kindergarten.  I am certain this will be an excellent enhancement for our early childhood program.  KinderDance will be extended to Grade 4 this year, it’s important for many reasons that our children get up, move and exercise and this rising 4th Grade are great dancers!  Field Trips are in the planning stage:  Turtle Back Zoo in the fall for our early childhood group, “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the New Jersey Shakespeare Theater and “The Merry Widow” and “Il Travatore” at the Metropolitan Opera for our upper grades.

One of the reasons you have chosen St. Francis Academy for your child is our authentic and deep Catholic Identity and I assure you that much prayer, thought and guidance are expended in bringing our children closer to the love of Christ, our Savior.  While Sts. Joseph and Michael Church is being restored we hope to continue Mass at 8:30 each morning, a different class attending each day.  This year we will also have Eucharistic Adoration on the First Wednesday of each month beginning in October.  Pope Benedict XVI called Eucharistic Adoration “the queen of all devotions.”  Even our babies will quietly visit the Eucharist for a short time.  You are always welcome to join us at Mass, Eucharistic Adoration or prayer services and please do not hesitate to visit our chapel anytime you enter the school.  Many saints have prayed there in the last 100 years add your name to their list.  We are also awaiting a reply from our new Cardinal, Joseph Tobin, to join us in celebrating Mass in our chapel.  Please pray that he can fit us into his busy schedule.  What an honor for St. Francis Academy and a wonderful experience for our children.  I know the Cardinal will be impressed by the children’s beauty and goodness.

Pope Francis has dedicated the 2017 annual celebration of World Youth Day held on Palm Sunday each year to focus upon Mary.  The theme chosen by the Pope is “The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is His name.” (Luke 1:49) this will be our school’s theme for the year in recognition of the blessings the Lord has poured out upon us.  The gifts of your children, our families, the MFIC Sisters and our good teachers and staff are blessings too great to count.  Let us dedicate ourselves to the protection and blessings of Mary and her son, Jesus with gratitude, humility and love throughout this 2017 – 2018 school year.

Welcome Back!
