Science Fair 2014

sci-fair2014The Science Fair 2014 for grades 5, 6, 7, and 8 was held last December 1-3, 2014 in the school’s auditorium and cafeteria. The judges were Mrs. Donna Grzbowski, Mr. Tholen, Ms. Edwards and Mrs. Cassidy. The first and second placed winners will be the official entries to the Hudson County Science fair to be held on March 2, 2015 at the Liberty Science Center.

These are the winners:

Grade 5 :

First- Valentina Weil (Crystals Alive)
Second- Isabel Le Compte (Germs In Hand washing)
Third- Nicholas Buendia (Milk and Vinegar) and Harveen Jhamatt (Ferro fluids Weird Behavior)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Daniel Halligan (Hydropower)
  • Elena Hernandez (Can mint cool down hot liquid?)
  • William Rial (What stains the most?)

Grade 6:

First- Blake Jacey (Type of liquid and boiling point)
Second- Aryaa Patel (Reusing waste)
Third – Connor Coloni (Evaporation) and Julian De Lemos (Quick sand)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Darian Constantine ( Cataracts)
  • Jack Durso (Making motor works)
  • Rachel Raslowsky (Food dye in candy)

Grade 7:

First- Nicole Borrero (Application of Golden Ratio to plants)
Second- Zubin Sood (The science behind dizziness)
Third- Julio Lopez (Relationship between eye color and sight) and Tyler Parrado (Flexibility of sneakers)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Dimitri Iokimidis (Glucose in foods and drinks)
  • Kurt Gray (Electromagnetic induction)
  • John Velasquez (Temperature and magnets)

Grade 8:

First- Ryan Gray (Centrifugal Force) and Miranda Stern (Quantum harmony)
Second- Valerie Kusner (Taming the tsunami)
Third- Tahlia Cantatore (Geotropism)

Honorable Mentions:

  • Caroline Bruder (Sunspots)
  • Sofia Casulli (Wave particle of light)
  • Christian Cunningham (Feline Genetics)
