May 2017

My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.
Our Lady of Fatima

Dear Parents,

May, the beautiful month of Mary, is a most busy time here at our beloved St. Francis Academy. Each morning we celebrate Mass with the faithful daily communicants of Sts. Joseph & Michael Church. Please pray that the renovation of the damaged church building will be affordable for the Archdiocese. Sts. Joseph & Michael Church’s location and relationship to St. Francis Academy is most important to the spiritual growth of our students. A different class attends Mass each day during Advent and Lent and our children are able to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation on a regular basis. Do not hesitate to express your concern for the future of Sts. Joseph & Michael Parish to the powers that be.

Our beautiful first communicants and their families braved the rain on Saturday, May 13th as they received the Body of Christ at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The ceremony and reverence of the children as they fully participated in the Mass was inspiring to all. Our May Procession and Crowning brought the warm weather and sunshine as we honored our Blessed Mother during this centennial year dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima.

Grandparents’ Luncheon took place on Tuesday, May 16th with an overflowing chapel and many smiling children and grandparents. How happy our littlest children were to pray and eat with the grandparents they love so very much.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the fun of the Walk-a-thon, and the excitement of the Spring Concert. We look forward to the many field trips planned for year’s end. The graduating students and many parents will be traveling to Washington DC. We will be visiting the new African American Museum which recently opened on the Mall, attending Mass each morning at the magnificent Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on the grounds of Catholic University. We’ll see the Washington Nationals play the Seattle Mariners and tour the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Grades 6 and 7 will visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, a first for SFA, where we will learn and reflect upon the devastation of that historic and tragic event.

Our school year is swiftly drawing to a close and it has been a wonderful year! I see tremendous progress for all our children: emotionally, socially, academically and spiritually. Pray for us as we continue to nurture and develop our beautiful students.

Peace,
Ms. Savage
