February 2018

Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face,
but with a great and strong purpose in your heart.
– Gordon B. Hinckley

Dear Parents,

What a wonderful and exciting Catholic Schools Week we have celebrated at SFA. Our activities seemed endless, as each day brought a new challenge to students and teachers alike. We opened our week with Mass celebrated by Father Chris Panlilio pastor of St. Francis Church in Hoboken and closed our week again with the celebration of the Mass, in our beautiful chapel, with Monsignor Joseph Reilly, Rector and Dean of the Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. What a blessing to have two such wonderful priests here at SFA sharing their love of God and the gospel message. Our Catholic Schools Week was truly hemmed in prayer.

Our dear 8th Grade students have received their high school acceptances and we are delighted that every child was accepted into every high school to which they applied. The goal for our graduates is that they continue their education in a highly academic Catholic school and the vast majority achieves this goal. The Class of 2018 has been placed in honors programs and we know God has placed them all on a path of growth, spiritually and academically.

Our annual Open House took place on January 31st and, as always, was a great success. Over 80 families came to SFA to take a tour given by our 6th, 7th, and 8th students. What beautiful families came to our door, I wish we had space for all their beloved children. These parents desired a place of safety, security, and dignity in which to educate their children and for so many our Franciscan Catholic charism was key to an exemplary education. The compliments given to our tour guides were well deserved and laudatory.

Though we have had fun wearing crazy socks and college sweatshirts, food was given to the hungry as a result of these lighthearted activities. We’ve played Bingo and have sold Valentine chocolate candy, from this activity money will be sent to help Puerto Rican recovery. We go forward with a twinkle in our eye and a smile on our face for every child who enters our building. But have no doubt, my dear parents, that St. Francis Academy is an institution with a great and strong purpose, and that purpose has not changed since the Missionary Franciscans founded our school. We are committed to the pursuit of excellence in academics, personal development and the foundation of a faith journey that will last a lifetime.

God bless you,
Deborah A. Savage
